Our Story

The fire is lit. Stay a while.

A wood-fired coastal kitchen in the heart of Bloomingdale.

A dream they'd set down

Then DC happened.

When Chef Jeremiah Brooks and Anthony Brooks stepped away from Hamilton's on Main, they believed their restaurant days were behind them. Another restaurant felt like a finished chapter.

Then DC happened. Good friends, regulars at a neighborhood spot in Bloomingdale, heard the owners were ready to pass it on. The room found Jeremiah and Anthony before they went looking for it.

They said yes. Bramble & Rye is what they built with that second chance, and they've poured their hearts into this neighborhood and its future.

Why Bloomingdale

Home, not a spreadsheet.

Bloomingdale has always made room for everyone, of every kind, shape and sound.

There are two parks within walking distance. For two men whose dogs sit at the center of their lives, that sealed it. This wasn't a location chosen off a spreadsheet. It's home.

What we cook, and how

Everything starts with fire.

Everything starts with fire. Our wood-fired oven, a Marra Forni we call Penny, sets the pace of the kitchen. Fire isn't a garnish here. It's the method.

The menu leans coastal, with seafood at its center. Produce comes from regional farms. The charcuterie program is made from scratch, in-house.

You'll taste gochujang next to za'atar, peri-peri next to Creole. That isn't a kitchen losing its way. It's a kitchen cooking the city it lives in. DC eats from everywhere, and so do we.

Why we do it

A neighborhood's restaurant.

We opened Bramble & Rye to be a neighborhood's restaurant. Pull up for a single glass at the bar. Plan the dinner you've been saving for. Bring the dog to the patio on a Sunday.

The people who feed you should be able to build a life doing it. A service charge on every check goes to our front-of-house team, so the people caring for you earn a real living wage.

The rhythm of the week

  • Bramble Hour, Wednesday through Friday, 4 to 5 pm
  • Dinner, Wednesday through Saturday
  • Sunday brunch, followed by Yappy Hour on the patio and family dinner
  • Saturday brunch starts in October

Look closer

Some of what hangs on our walls has more to say than it lets on. We won't tell you here. You'll have to come find it.
